This app is a straightforward tool that provides all the essential buoy information you need, without the clutter of tide or weather forecasts.
With this app, you can easily access current buoy conditions through an intuitive map interface, and explore past buoy data using interactive graphs.
The app offers data from over 900 buoys and over 200 ships worldwide. This includes buoys in the Atlantic and Pacific oceans off the United States and Canada, the Great Lakes, the Caribbean, and the waters around Ireland and Great Britain.
Key features of NOAA Buoy Reports:
- Intuitive map interface
- Quick-view Favorites
- Locations of Tropical Storms, Hurricanes, and Cyclones per NHC
- Full buoy current conditions (always free)
- Ship observations (free preview)
- Buoy Cams (free preview)
- Past buoy data (up to 45 days ago with Professional upgrade)
- Interactive graphs
- Units in Metric or English
- Readings in your local time
- Share data via Facebook, Twitter, Email, iMessage, etc.
- Home Screen and Desktop Widgets to monitor your favorites
- Lock Screen & StandBy Mode Widgets to monitor your favorites
The app's map interface allows you to easily access the latest reported conditions of any buoy with just a tap. Another tap will provide a complete summary of current conditions or a graph displaying wind, wave, temperature, or pressure information. This way, you can not only see what's happening now but also compare it with previous data.
You can also create a list of "Favorites" to quickly check the most important buoys, and conveniently monitor them using the included Widgets.
Please note that this app focuses solely on buoy and ship observation data and does not provide tide data or maritime or weather forecasts. If you require those features, there are dedicated apps available from other publishers that do an excellent job.
Keep in mind that not all buoys have all types of data available, and intermittent outages may occur since buoys are subject to harsh conditions at sea. Additionally, some buoys may be seasonal and physically removed from the water during winter months, particularly in the Great Lakes region.
The raw source data used in this app is provided by NOAA, National Data Buoy Center (NDBC), and the National Hurricane Center (NHC).
